FNB Stadium ready for U2

Johannesburg - The FNB Stadium is 100% ready for the U2 concert, Stadium Management SA (SMSA) said on Friday.

"Having undergone a series of event audits for both the stadium as well as for the greater Soccer City Complex, all aspects relating to hosting this international concert on home soil have received full clearance from the necessary authorities," said CEO Jacques Grobbelaar.

"All logistics surrounding the event have been cleared and all aspects are ahead of plan."

On February 1 the stadium was plunged into darkness after cable theft caused power outages in the Soccer City complex.

The power outage caused the postponement of a Premier Soccer League match between Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows that was meant to be played on February 5.

Many U2 fans had voiced concerns as the band is scheduled to perform at FNB Stadium on its 360 Degree Tour on Sunday.

Grobbelaar said SMSA would explore preventive measures to secure the precinct against future cable theft.
