Cape Town – The tech blog, MyBroadband, on Thursday released the first official numbers of Gareth Cliff’s new venture, CliffCentral.
CliffCentral kicked off on 1 May this year after the controversial radio DJ separated ways with 5FM, the radio station where he first found fame with his satirical morning breakfast show.
According to MyBroadband, who received the stats after requesting it from CliffCentral, the numbers look as follow.
In June 2014 CliffCentral had:
47 209 unique users on its website

CliffCentral’s weekly listeners, during the month of June 2014, on their three main platforms (web, WeChat and downloadable podcasts) were:

Gareth and Comedy Central split
Channel24 in June reported that CliffCentral and Comedy Central would part ways just a month and a half after it launched on the TV channel as a simulcast web show.
The internet radio shown on TV experiment failed to attract enough viewers wanting to "listen" and watch it on MultiChoice's DStv satellite pay-TV platform.
Cliff denied reports that he was "dropped" by Comedy Central. After a media enquiry to Comedy Central they responded by saying it was a "mutual decision" to cancel the show.
The TV channel said they were "consciously uncoupling" with Gareth.
Gareth found the shift 'terrifying'
In a video posted on YouTube by Heavy Chef on 18 July 2014 Gareth said that he found the shift from radio to online terrifying.
"I would sit up in bed at night and think what the hell have I done?" Cliff told the audience during a Q&A.
He added: "One thing I can tell you is that I have no regret about making the move."
Other opinions
Channel24 approached Seth Rotherham, CEO of 2oceansvibe Media, to get his perspective on Gareth’s stats.
"As you may recall we were absolutely lambasted when we bumped our head, as we pioneered the commercial online radio space. Something that I'm glad happened as it allowed us to move on from our initial stream providers who were providing the incorrect figures, over to Triton, the world leader in online streaming," Rotherham said.
He added: "I agree with Gareth that it is not just about the listenership. Our clients often want us to put together packages that stretch across all our platforms (web, podcasts and online radio).
"One new exciting development I can tell you about after watching Gareth, is we have decided to launch the entire 2oceansvibe experience on WeChat, which will become our third platform."
