Fists fly at Liebenberg's party

Cape Town – Model Lee-Ann Liebenberg has claimed that she was sexually harassed after a long night out in Camps Bay where she and her friends spent about R75 000 on French champagne.

The incident happened on Sunday, about two months after Liebenberg gave birth to her first child.

Liebenberg, her fiancé - polo player Nicky van der Walt - and about 40 of their friends had been at Cafe Caprice since early that evening.

Humiliated and shy

Van der Walt became aggressive towards the alleged attacker at 23:00 after which the group were asked to leave the restaurant, according to reports. Liebenberg that same evening posted on Twitter that she was attacked.

Her agent, Andrew Farr, could not confirm any of these claims.

The claim later changed: "Someone touched her in an inappropriate manner. She feels humiliated and shy," Farr said.

Caprice's manager, Michael Mouneimne, said however that Liebenberg only "exaggerated over nothing and she wants attention".

"She wasn't harassed. A man (19) bumped into her by mistake in the very full restaurant and she pretended that he harassed her," Mouneimne said.

'Partying up a storm'

"They were drunk and went crazy. They even showered each other with the champagne."

After this, Van der Walt allegedly started hitting the 19-year-old.

It was only after a friend of the couple started hitting Mouneimne that they were asked to pay their R60 000 bill for Veuve Clicquot, Dom Perignon and Moët and to leave the restaurant, he said.

They then apologised and the group was allowed in just after midnight again, after which another R15 000 was spent on champagne, he said.

Farr said that the couple will not be pressing charges for sexual harassment and also denied that anyone was drunk.

Another witness confirmed the incident and said that they were "partying up a storm".

UPDATE: Attempts to locate Lee-Ann Liebenberg's Twitter page (@LeeAnnL) failed and has apparently been suspended. http://twitter.com/LeeAnnL is currently inactive.
