Cape Town – Fleur du Cap organisers have apologised after they gave two awards to the wrong nominees, reports IOL.
James Cairns received the prize for best performance in Dirt, a one-man show, but Antoinette Kellermann was the winner for her award-winning role in As die Broek Pas.
Ilse Klink was awarded the prize for best performance in a musical for her role in Mamma Mia!, but James Borthwick was the actual winner for his role in Evita.
Conrad Sidego, chairman of the Fleur du Cap awards, said the mistake occurred while counting the votes of the judges.
"A mistake was made, and it was not made with malice.
"That is why we chose to come forward and admit that a mistake had occurred," said Sidego.
The Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards, which hosted its 46th annual awards ceremony this year, acknowledges excellence in theatre, arts and culture.
