Cape Town - Radio DJ Gareth Cliff has released an app for iTunes.
"More than ever before, the way people access information and entertainment is changing with new technology, new perceptions of value and, of course, new media," Cliff said.
The app for iPhone and iPod Touch is designed to give fans of the morning radio personality and Idols judge a "connection" with wake-up calls featured on the radio show and location-based weather information.
The free app represents the first South African "personality" app and reflects Cliff's appetite for digital media.
He is a prolific commenter with blogs and has 500 000 followers on social networks. Cliff will produce a daily video blog for the app and it will integrate his Facebook and Twitter content.
"I'm delighted to be able to offer my audience additional content in a fresh, cool way," Cliff said.
Apps are part of the reason that smartphones are experiencing exponential growth and iTunes has around 465 000 apps for download and about 15 billion downloads.
The CG app was launched on Thursday and an iPad version will be available in September.
