Hijackers shoot DJ’s wife

2012-06-29 08:51
Johannesburg – The wife of a well-known DJ has been admitted to hospital with two bullet wounds after she was shot by hijackers.

Zina Rotherham, the wife of Jacaranda FM DJ Paul Rotherham, managed to drive away after hijackers fired at her near the Gautrain's Marlboro station at 17:20 on Wednesday, reported Beeld.

She had just dropped off a friend and was looking for a turnoff when the hijacker fired two shots through her windscreen.

She was hit in the abdomen and her left hand, but drove away and phoned her husband, who alerted the local emergency services. They raced to the Engen garage where she had parked her car and was being helped by garage staff.

She was taken to the Sunninghill hospital, where surgeons removed the bullet from her abdomen. She was to undergo a delicate operation to remove the bullet in her left hand.

The DJ did not want to comment on his wife's ordeal but confirmed on Facebook that his wife was in a stable condition in hospital.

@Steen... your stupid little comment is the perfect example of why Parents should monitor their children's internet activity.

      drishworth - 2012-06-29 11:40

Steen, all I smell is your bad breath 'cos you talk through your ar$e. Best wishes to the Rotherhams - an awful ordeal to come to terms with.

Barbaric b@stards. Why shoot her? I wish her a speedy recovery.

      FirstSeed - 2012-06-29 09:11

      Nobody deserves to be shot

      OzzyIn - 2012-06-29 19:55

Jaysonpaul, it is because life has so little value in SA. You see it all the time where people get killed for a cell phone, or for the R500 for a hijacked BMW. The value of a life in this country is zero.

  • gillian.sanderson - 2012-06-29 09:08

Speedy recovery Zina - what a horribly scary experience!.

  • Ninjinvee - 2012-06-29 09:24

I don't what it will take for the government to realise SA HAS A PANDEMIC! Does ANC need to be victims of crime to actually understand the pathetic level of Crime?

      patsy.smith.125 - 2012-06-29 14:11

Victims of crime? With all their bodyguards (which the taxpayers pay for)? You must be joking! It's just us poor suckers who land up suffering because of their stupidity, stubborness, criminality, and greed.

A speedy recovery to your wife, Mr Rotherham. May these perps be found and jailed for a very long time.

  • chris.grobbelaar1 - 2012-06-29 09:35

Mr Rotherham, may your wife heal quickly and may these perps be caught soon and jailed for a very long time.

Zuma, until you get off your backside and manage this country like you are being paid to, and do something about the crime rate, then I hope this is what happens to all your wives.

  • valkyriaza - 2012-06-29 10:05

I hope Zina recovers very quickly.

And they wonder why you get ppl who makes their own version of the anthem and plays it a kfc or why white ppl have so many hatred in their harts towards them.

      Tony Lapson - 2012-06-29 10:39

We can change this mindset one random act of kindness at a time. We have to be the change we want to see in this world. We have to start learning to understand each other, to be able to picture ourselves standing in another persons shoes. There is a reason why every human being acts the way they do based on their childhood experiences, upbringing and developed perception of how volatile/peaceful our environment is.

      Jacqueline - 2012-06-29 23:06

You have a point there Mhlopwe. Unfortunately it is the criminal element who spoil an entire country for everyone, minority and majority!

July last year they tried to hijack me on Marlboro as well, where the speed cameras are, I was cornered in by a white conquest, two guys smashed my windows and tried to pull me out the car, I was also at the Engen waiting for friends to help. when the cops took my statement they left off the part where the guys had guns (because a smash and grab is a lesser crime than an hijacking so brings the stats down) when I asked where they added about the gun the cop told me it was on the statement in the vehicle - it was reported to Sandton Police station, I went the next day, they took finger prints from the vehicle, when I queried the case the next day it had been closed with NO investigation! Makes me sick.

      Ninjinvee - 2012-06-29 11:26

No surprise that those who can afford to, are emmigrating! We live in a beautiful country with an ugly government!

      greg.quinn.353 - 2012-06-29 12:56

Confirms my suspicions that the crime and lack of education being introduced into this country is part of coldly calculated design, not accident or negligence.

      cherry.tcmr - 2012-07-01 07:40

In this case you have to take it to the IDC. Every crime has to be investigated and if YOU may not sign a statement which you do not agree with. Please report the matter to the ICD.

psychopath paradise welcomes one and all ....the question is, will you leave alive or will you perish trying? Give the ANC a round of applause. No other government in the world has managed to breed and nurture such a sickness. A gold medal at last, we are on the map, proud south africans take a bow, we have earned the scum of the earth prize.

  • roodbol - 2012-06-29 13:53

Steen, just shut up. You watch too many CSI movies...

  • patsy.smith.125 - 2012-06-29 14:05

So dreadfully sorry for you both. Hope they catch the b******s who did this and give them life sentences - not a mere slap on the wrist

  • alon.fisher.752 - 2012-06-29 14:38

The way to curb crime through detterence, is to make jail suck big time, forced labour, lack of sleep, torture for disobedience, deprivation of food. Right now our criminals hi-jackers included are laughing at our justice system, knowing what a jol it is inside behind bars, make these bastards regret breaking the law!!!Hope the dj and his wife recover from this ordeal.

From America - Prayers and all good thoughts for a speedy recovery. I enjoyed listening to Jacaranda during my trips to SA. I am certain she was not a specific target. Just normal activity in a beautiful country gone to hell with crime by its own people.

  • JenniferMoller13 - 2012-07-01 10:46

Thinking of and praying for Zina and Paul. Criminals have hijacked our country.

The malboro station is getting bad!!! I nearly get hi-jacked yesterday by the robots!2 young males hijacked a Corsa Bakkie infront of me during peak hours about 16:30.... The Gautrain station needs to have more security there because people are going to stop using the station because it is very dangerous!
