Cape Town - Huisgenoot magazine hit back at Playboy SA, saying that the men's mag's claim of overtaking Huisgenoot on Facebook "isn't based on facts".
On Wednesday, the men's magazine claimed to have overtaken Huisgenoot as SA's most talked about magazine on Facebook.
Blake Horowitz of Playboy compared the "talking about this" numbers of various magazine brands' Facebook pages on Wednesday and remarked that Playboy SA had the highest number.
As of Thursday afternoon, 11 720 were "talking about" Playboy SA on Facebook, whereas 10 925 people were "talking about" Huisgenoot.
Numbers change daily
However, Wilmer Muller, head of digital and marketing for Huisgenoot, YOU and Drum, says these numbers change daily.
"The 'most talked about' data, which is the base for Playboy's claim, changes daily – it's not even a weekly or monthly statistic," said Muller.
He continued: "However, if you look over a four week period, our highest figure for a specific day is 18 910 in comparison with Playboy's 13 718. Our lowest figure for a specific day is 8 510 and Playboy's 4 302."
Muller says the magazine's Facebook "likes" speak to Huisgenoot's popularity.
"Playboy's claim isn't based on facts.
"The figures should speak for itself - Huisgenoot has 186 030 "likes" and Playboy 45 208 "likes" (as on 5 July 2012)."
* Huisgenoot and Channel24 are both Media24 publications.
