Jacaranda DJ suspended over cancer funds

Johannesburg - Jacaranda FM will meet suspended DJ Miguel Proenca on Friday after money collected for a ten-year-old cancer sufferer allegedly went missing, according to a report.

Proenca collected charitable donations on behalf of Reneilwe Mashego, from Bushbuckridge, in November last year as part of Jacaranda's involvement in the November project, Beeld reported.

Masego Serape, Jacaranda FM spokesperon, said on Thursday the matter was still being investigated.

Koen Koekemoer, Proenca's lawyer, confirmed his client had to be at Jacaranda's head office on Friday.

Several other prizes missing

"We've been given no notification of any disciplinary hearing, though."

Jacaranda FM has meanwhile provisionally decided to remove Proenca's photograph from its website and promotional material.

As part of Jacaranda FM's fund raising drive in November last year, around 300 tickets were sold for R50 each. The money was handed over to Proenca.

Earlier this year, he reportedly gave R300, three blankets and some clothing items to Reneilwe's grandmother, Cornelia Mashego.

It's also still not clear what had happened to several prizes donated by businesses in the city, including electronic equipment worth R9000 donated by Makro, and two R5000 gift vouchers donated by Spar Lowveld.
