Pretoria – Afrikaans rocker Jan Blohm was released on R500 bail on Monday after he allegedly assaulted his wife, Zinta.
He appeared in the Pretoria district court under his real name, George Harry Kymdell, after he allegedly pushed her during a row on Saturday.
He spent the weekend in jail before he appeared in court on Monday. The court also heard that the couple is about to divorce.
The case has been postponed until later this month so that Blohm can be evaluated by a social worker to determine whether he is a suitable candidate for a rehabilitation programme.
In such a case, the accused has to accept responsibility for his offence and attend various courses. If the programme is completed successfully, the criminal charges are withdrawn.
Blohm was recently treated for Bipolar disorder in the Denmar Psychiatric Hospital.
