Joost 'having an affair with his doctor'

Johannesburg - Joost van der Westhuizen is having an affair with the doctor who's been the rock in the former Springbok's battle against motor neuron disease (MNS) the last few months, says Amor Vittone.

The former glamour couple is divorcing.

In turn, the sickly Joost is accusing Amor of having many affairs while they were still together in the latest issue of Huisgenoot. He apparently caught Amor and an "Afrikaans singer" (later revealed to be Kurt Darren) in an embrace.

Amor denied it and has retaliated in an exclusive interview with Rapport on Saturday.

Make-believe camping

She said her suspicions of a relationship between Joost and his neurologist, Dr Jody Pearl, were reinforced by the couple going camping together last weekend.

Dr Pearl got divorced last year. In mid-2011, she reportedly travelled with Joost to America where he received treatment in Cleveland, Ohio.

Joost admitted to Rapport that he did go camping with his doctor.

According to Amor, their daughter Kylie, five, told her they camped "in the woods". Kylie apparently said she saw a "giraffe" and that "dadda and the lady" slept in one tent.

But Joost said it was make-believe camping in the garden of Dr Pearl's house in Sandton. They just did for the children's sake, he said.

'Sexy doctor'

"Nothing improper occurred. It's just because Jody is a sexy doctor, now everyone is quick to say there's something between us," the former Springbok said.

Joost said Dr Pearl's parents, brother and her children all slept together outdoors.

"There were three tents. One was for the boys in which me and her brother also slept, the other for the girls in which Jody slept and the third was for her parents."

Selwyn Shapiro, Amor's lawyer, said it would be highly inappropriate for Joost to have a relationship with Dr Pearl, because she has to keep Amor updated on the former Bok's health condition.

"Dr Pearl has to advise my client on a regular basis about the welfare of her husband."

Physically strong enough

Amor said Joost finds it difficult to even break open the shell of a shrimp.

"Let alone look after my children?" asked Amor.

"If they're in a relationship, she will advise me on what will be to their advantage. I must know whether Joost is physically strong enough to look after my kids when they're with him on weekends. "

Shapiro added: "But we will handle this in the divorce case. I am aware that my client has tried numerous times to finalise the divorce."

Joost implies in Huisgenoot that Amor is deliberately taking her time with the divorce.
