Kwaito musician violent, court hears

Johannesburg - Kwaito star Brickz is a violent man and should not be granted bail, the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court heard on Tuesday.

"The accused is violent, his wife and the girl are afraid of him. He should not be granted bail," investigating officer Warrant Officer Joel Ngobeni said.

Brickz was a flight risk as he was a musician who travelled most of the time, said Ngobeni.

Brickz, real name Sipho Charles Ndlovu, has been in custody since 1 November for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl in March. The case was opened on 14 October, said Ngobeni.

In an affidavit read by his lawyer, Isaac Mokgopi, Brickz denied raping her.

"I was informed that I was charged with rape, I intend to plead not guilty to the charge," Brickz said in the affidavit.

Ngobeni said he took over the case only on Tuesday as the initial investigating officer fell ill.

The award-winning musician allegedly threatened the girl and told her he would kill her if she told anyone about the crime, said Ngobeni.

Brickz was arrested and fined R1000 for drug possession in 2007, the court heard.

The bail hearing continues.
