'Like' Liezel's bike for the Argus

Johannesburg – Only fans will be able to make Expresso presenter Liezel van der Westhuizen complete the upcoming Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour.

Sponsor Pick n Pay has had a special bicycle built for Van der Westhuizen, which is equipped with an iPad.

It will be the task of supporters to 'like' Pick n Pay's Facebook page in order for Van der Westhuizen to progress 10m on her 110 km route. "It's all going to charity and through this the whole community can get involved in the Argus."

The iPad is connected to the wheel of the bicycle and recharges in this way.

For every 'like' she can move 10m forward and for every 10km (1000 'likes') she will donate a bicycle to Velokhaya Life Cycling Academy in Cape Town.

The Academy donates bicycles to underprivileged youngsters.

'Worth it'

She recently finished the Dusi Canoe Marathon and declares it's been her favourite adventure so far, even though she sustained a sprained ankle and now has to walk on crutches.

"Every year there is something crazy I want to do. Before last year it was the Ironman event, last year the Argus and this year the Dusi."

Last year she sustained a serious hip injury when she fell off her bike and she's currently receiving physical therapy for her ankle.

"Hopefully I'll be off the crutches by the weekend. But everything is worth it when I get a letter from a woman whom I inspired."
