Mannetjies Roux opens to loud applause

Cape Town – After a sold-out run in Pretoria, Afrikaans musical Stuur groete aan Mannetjies Roux opened to rousing applause at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town on Thursday.

Built around the songs of songwriter Christopher Torr, Stuur groete is set in the early eighties on a farm in the Karoo, Dwarsbult. Laurika Rauch is the present-day narrator, looking back on one dramatic holiday that changed everybody’s lives.

Rauch was joined on stage by newcomers Elizca Coetzee as the young Engela and Steffie le Roux as Katrina.

Stuur groete is on at Artscape until 3 July, then Emperor's Palace in Johannesburg from 6 to 24 July and will complete the tour at the Sand du Plessis in Bloemfontein from 28 to 30 July.

All the profit from the production will be donated to the Atterbury Trust – a trust that primarily focuses on education by supporting schools and giving bursaries to prospective students.

Tickets are available at Computicket.
