Johannesburg – US First Lady Michelle Obama starts her six day tour of Southern Africa on Monday. She will be visiting Pretoria, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Gaborone in Botswana.
She will be joined by her daughters Malia and Sasha, as well as her mother Marian Robinson and two cousins. Her husband President Barack Obama will however not be accompanying her.
According to The Whitehouse, Michelle's visit will focus on youth-leadership programmes, education, health and welfare. She will also voice the importance of expanding democracy on the continent.
Michelle Obama will also meet with various anti-apartheid leaders and will visit places that are central to South Africa's history of apartheid and the subsequent struggle to end it.
