Cape Town - The annual Miss SA Teen pageant has been cancelled due to financial difficulties, reports Sowetan Live.
Miss SA Teen, a pageant affiliated to Miss SA, has been struggling to entice sponsors for a few years now.
Sun International spokesperson Sue Klerck told the Sowetan the decision to cancel the pageant was a difficult one.
"The reason for the move was to streamline costs and the available resources into one major event," Klerck explained.
Lower age limit
Klerck said that the Miss SA pageant and Miss SA Teen would now serve as one platform and that the age limit had been lowered to compensate for the loss of the Miss SA Teen pageant.
Reigning Miss SA Teen Celeste Khumalo will be the last winner of the now cancelled event to attend the Miss SA pageant which is to be held at Sun City on 9 December.
Previous Miss SA Teen winners such as Phuti Khomo and Zizo Beda launched their entertainment careers after winning the pageant.
