Johannesburg - Miss South Africa Bokang Montjane has teamed up with M-Net Cares to launch a new initiative as part of Mandela Day.
Montjane is asking South Africans to donate books to the primary school she went to as a little girl in Limpopo. She intends to open a library at the school towards the end of July.
"I want to re-instil a culture of reading in schools. I believe that for children to develop as individuals they need to read. Reading helps pave the way to a successful and productive future. Reading enhances lives," said Montjane.
Readers Society of South Africa has donated 1 000 books to kick-start Montjane's campaign.
Mandela Day is celebrated on July 18, the former president's birthday. The country is asked to dedicate 67 minutes of their time and make a difference in other people's lives on this day.
Montjane is also involved in several other projects including the Teddy Bear Clinic and Reach for a Dream. She intends to make the whole month of July a time of giving.
