Trainwreck

Director: Judd Apatow

Featuring: Amy Schumer, Bill Hader

It’s 2015. Women are arseholes, men are struggling with changing definitions of masculinity and hook-up culture is the norm.

Like the TV series Girls, Trainwreck posits itself perfectly in this generation – one where getting a phone call after a one-night stand is so unheard of, you can safely assume the person butt-dialled you.

Amy Schumer plays Amy, a twentysomething magazine writer who may be on top of her career, but is completely incapable of monogamy. And who can blame her?

We’ve been taught romance is dead and love is for the naive.

Amy goes through life drinking heavily, smoking weed and sleeping with anyone who comes her way. By the time she meets successful sports doctor Aaron Conners, brilliantly played by the underrated Bill Hader, she’s so used to cold hook-ups that even sleeping over at his apartment after sex confuses her.

Trainwreck is a post-romance comedy that every twentysomething who has spent even a fraction of time in the dating scene will understand. It’s sharp, subtle, funny and thoroughly entertaining.

All hail Ms Schumer!

Moja Love's drug-busting show, Sizokuthola, is back in hot water after its presenter, Xolani Maphanga's assault charges of an elderly woman suspected of dealing in drugs upgraded to attempted murder. In 2023, his predecessor, Xolani Khumalo, was nabbed for the alleged murder of a suspected drug dealer. What's your take on this?
