New SABC board member appointed

Johannesburg - A new member of the SABC board has been appointed with immediate effect, the presidency said on Wednesday.

"We wish her all the best in this critical task of executing the country's public broadcasting mandate," said President Jacob Zuma in naming his appointee as Leah Thabisile Khumalo.

Zuma has appointed Khumalo into the position as a non-executive director where she is expected to serve until 24 September 2018.

Khumalo's appointment comes after previous board member Noluthando Gosa resigned in November last year.

The board she will serve on is the fourth since 2009.

The most recent board was established in September 2013 following Parliament's dissolution of the previous board after infighting earlier in the year prompted all but one member to resign.
