New TV thriller for SA

Cape Town – A new thriller series is being planned for local television by TV and film producer, Franz Marx.

It will feature model and actress Christina Storm as a lesbian prostitute, and veteran actor Shaleen Surtie-Richards as an experienced detective investigating serial murders.

The new TV series has provisionally been called Flesh.

The project is still in its early days, and Marx's production company, Franz Marx Films, is not releasing any details.

But Die Burger heard from insiders that filming of the pilot episode of Flesh recently finished and that TV stations were now being approached.

As soon as a green light was obtained, the filming of the rest of the series could begin.

Psychological thriller

When news about the new series was leaked, there were rumours that it would be a "gay series". In reality, it is more of a psychological thriller.

However, some of the actors will be playing gay characters, such as Storm and Gert van Schalkwyk, better known as the pilot Jacques in the soapie Egoli.

The series is set in Cape Town, and starts with the naked body of a young man being thrown out of a car late at night at the foot of the Jan van Riebeeck statue.

More bodies of young men are found, and detective Penelope de Vos (Surtie-Richards) realises she's dealing with a serial killer who targets gay men.

David Rees (Niek Naudé in Egoli), plays a wealthy wine farmer who is seen as one of the suspects, along with his wife, Tiffany Kelly (Sonet in Egoli).

Other well-known actors who play roles in the pilot episode are Ashley Dowds, Jill Middelkop, (the sex-obsessed Jansie Jansen in Egoli) and a model, Leigh, who plays a lesbian prostitute.
