Johannesburg - Does Molemo Maarohanye, aka JubJub, have a new girlfriend to go with his new life as a jailbird?
Zandile Ngwenya was in the Protea Magistrate's Court in Soweto on 16 October 16 when Maarohanye, 36, and co-accused Themba Tshabalala were convicted on charges of murder, attempted murder, and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
When the hip-hop artist was denied bail, 22-year-old Ngwenya - who was overheard calling Maarohanye’s father “papa” – wept on a friend’s shoulder.
As Maarohanye prepared for his first night in Johannesburg's notorious Sun City prison, he handed Ngwenya his bible, belt, jacket and a necklace he was wearing. The two embraced and Ngwenya left the courtroom in tears.
Last week, a close friend of the two confirmed that Maarohanye and Ngwenya were dating. However, when City Press tracked her down, she was less than forthcoming.
“I’m not his girlfriend. I’m his cousin. No, I’m his cousin sister (sic),” she stuttered before quickly hanging up the phone.
Online, Ngwenya is less discreet.
In a recent tweet, she wrote: “MKM.” The rapper’s full name is Molemo Kagiso Maarohanye.
In another tweet, she gushed: “I’m so in love with you Mo! My fiancé.”
Maarohanye, meanwhile, tweeted: “Love is a beautiful thing.” Ngwenya responded by retweeting his comment.
In perhaps the most revealing statement about the relationship she is denying, Ngwenya posted a photograph of herself being embraced by a tattooed arm.
Asked by a friend online whether the tattoo was hers, she replied: “No, its not my tattoo:) sm1s got their arm arnd my neck from behind.”
Maarohanye’s right arm features a tattoo of the same design.
