Cape Town - A South African woman has called upon celebrities such as Lady Gaga and Oprah in a bid to raise awareness of the epidemic of Rhino poaching in South Africa.
A link to a YouTube channel that shows the violent suffering of one of hundreds of rhinoceroses being killed for its horn was sent via Twitter to a number of celebrities including Lady Gaga, Oprah, actor Ashton Kutcher, singer Taylor Swift, British rocker Ozzy Osbourne as well as local TV and radio personality Gareth Cliff.
Camrin Bouwer, 27, a mechanical engineer from Musina in Limpopo is an eager activist in the fight to stop rhino poaching.
"I sent them the footage that would shock anyone, with the hope that it will encourage them to investigate what is happening to rhinoceroses in South Africa".
Bouwer has not received any feedback from the celebrities she contacted.
Bouwer is actively involved with online petitions to stop rhino poaching and has contacted several large South African companies in order to share her ideas on how to curb the poaching crisis.
Her ideas include that passengers aboard flights on South African Airways be shown a presentation on the reality of rhino poaching and the medical research that has shown that the horn of the rhinoceros has no medicinal value.
