Cape Town - Controversial and popular breakfast show DJ Phat Joe has left Heart FM, reports Sowetan Live.

This news comes soon after the popular Cape Town radio station's managing director, Gavin Meiring, announced that he would leave the station at the end of December.

Phat Joe, whose real name is Majota Kambule, has said that this decision was not an easy one, but thanked his fans on Twitter for their ongoing support. After presenting his last show on 12 October, Phat Joe will now pursue other broadcasting projects.

Brandon Leigh new host

"I have decided to focus my time and energy on my television show Real Goboza (RGB) on SABC 1 and MTN's new cellphone radio service, MTN Play Radio," Phat Joe told Sowetan Live about his decision.

The station has announced that Brandon Leigh will be the new host of the Breakfast Show. Brandon is a familiar voice to listeners on Heart FM as he has filled in for Phat Joe previously.

The station's Facebook page has been filled with messages from listeners who are not very happy about Joe's decision to leave, or Brandon being chosen as his replacement.

Phat Joe has worked at other radio stations such as Yfm, Metro FM and Kaya FM.

He however found himself in a pickle at Kaya FM and was fired after making rude comments about Caster Semenya's gender.

"I think I got fired for doing too good of a job," Phat Joe told Channel24 of his Kaya FM sacking.
