Cape Town - Peter Piegl left Playboy SA because he didn't want the magazine to be sold in sex shops, reports TimesLive.
The site quotes Piegl saying: "My vision is that it is a lifestyle magazine, not a skin magazine."
According to TimesLive, Piegl resigned on May 23 but only announced it via Twitter and Facebook on Wednesday.
Piegl wrote on his Facebook page: "My reasons for resigning have nothing to do with the Playboy brand or its sustainability in South Africa."
Playboy SA general manager Karen von Wielligh confirmed to Timeslive that the magazine has entered a deal with a popular sex shop chain in SA.
Playboy SA relaunched in April 2011 and SA model Tracy McGregor graced the first cover.
The magazine has said that Charl du Plessis will take over as acting editor-in-chief.
