Playboy searches for SA bunnies

Cape Town - The South African edition of the men's magazine Playboy is looking for its first playmate - the most popular girl of the month, for which the magazine has become famous.

Women from across South Africa can apply to appear in the magazine - which will soon be on local shelves - as the "babe of the month".

Women can send in photos of themselves to be considered as a "Playboy bunny" or model.

Every month a local lady will get the opportunity to be the new playmate.

The greatest honour is winning the Playmate of the Year competition and getting the chance to visit the Playboy mansion in Los Angeles, US.

This mini harem is home to Hugh Hefner, the creator of Playboy.

"We believe South African women are some of the most beautiful in the world. It's time we show them to the rest of the world," said Peter Piegl, editor of Playboy South Africa.

Piegl emphasised that there would be no discrimination against women based on their chest size.

"We want to make it clear to potential playmates that a smaller chest does not limit you. The playmate competition is a celebration of a woman's body."

According to Piegl, the level of nudity in the magazine will be limited to exposed breasts and tasteful depictions of the female form.

"We always focus on depicting women in a comfortable, dignified, artistic and sensual way, rather than in a graphic or explicit manner."
