Johannesburg - South Africa’s most famous TV presenter is about to become one of Africa’s most famous – and has had to revise her five-year plan because she’s achieved all the goals she set for herself just two years ago.

Bonang Matheba this week chatted to City Press on the set of Afternoon Express, revealing her new plans – and gave us a glimpse of her new show, which replaces the SABC’s 3Talk with Noeleen.

Bonang is one of the presenters of the public broadcaster’s latest daily talk offering, Afternoon Express, which starts from tomorrow at 4pm.

But that’s not all.

Later this year, Bonang will also be co-presenting one of Africa’s biggest talk shows, Moments with Mo.

Bonang has been working around the clock with Afternoon Express co-hosts Jeannie D and Bonnie Mbuli to meet the urgent deadline.

The production was unable to shoot in Joburg, presumably due to problems with studio space, and was shot in Cape Town instead.

Queen B told City Press she decided to move to the Mother City and has settled in.

Asked for a teaser of what viewers can expect tomorrow afternoon, she said the show was not going to be just a regular talk show.

“It’s more than just talk. It’s not Oprah, sit-down-type talk. But there is an element of talk.

“It’s the perfect show for that 4pm weekday slot. It’s Wendy Williams (whom she tries to catch every evening) and a bit Ellen DeGeneres ... It’s travel, fashion, food, entertainment and hot boys. It’s going to be a good show,” she explained.

Then there’s the bigger news of EbonyLife TV’s talk show Moments with Mo.

This week Bonang confirmed that she would be co-hosting the show – watched in virtually every country in Africa – with media mogul and presenter Mo Abudu.

“My manager Zoe [Msutwana] is working out the details, logistics, money, but it’s as good as done,” Bonang noted.

She added that Moments with Mo would also mean “finding time to go to Lagos and shooting there, and possibly banking episodes or finding time to shoot here at home”.

The Nigerian city is one of Bonang’s favourite places in the world.

Now that she’s achieved so many goals so fast, Bonang is rethinking her future.

She has an eye on the US.

“I’m going to start with auditions, sending out my showreel and see how it goes,” she disclosed.

Bonang is particularly keen on the E! entertainment channel offerings, such as Fashion Police, and plans to include that in her new five-year plan.

Moja Love's drug-busting show, Sizokuthola, is back in hot water after its presenter, Xolani Maphanga's assault charges of an elderly woman suspected of dealing in drugs upgraded to attempted murder. In 2023, his predecessor, Xolani Khumalo, was nabbed for the alleged murder of a suspected drug dealer. What's your take on this?
