Rape accused Kwaito star applies for bail

Johannesburg - Rape accused Kwaito star Brickz brought a formal application for bail in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Willem le Roux said the hearing would continue after 14:00 but gave no reason for the delay.

Brickz, whose real name is Sipho Charles Ndlovu, has been in custody since 1 November for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl in March.

He wore a grey suit and a blue shirt on Tuesday and sat briefly in the dock before the court adjourned.

A court orderly said the court was waiting for the investigating officer.

"We do not know what is holding up the State... We are ready to proceed," said Ndlovu's lawyer Isaac Mokgopi.

Comment from National Prosecutions Authority spokesperson Phindi Louw could not be obtained.
