Ryk is hot

Johannesburg - Hot or not?

Ryk Neethling is steaming hot, according to readers of South African showbiz magazine, heat.

South African swimming's golden boy has achieved what not even Brad Pitt could achieve. That is, he's been voted as the hottest celebrity on the planet by heat readers for two consecutive years, said Melinda Shaw, heat editor.

Approximately 250 000 votes were cast.

"It just shows you what staying power Ryk has, winning the hearts of South Africans year after year," said Shaw.

Favourite

Neethling's younger sister Jean-Marie accompanied him to the Heat Hot 100 party on Friday evening.

Among the other South Africans on the list are Jaco de Bruyn, this year's winner of the Heat Man Watch 2009 competition, model Lee-Ann Liebenberg and television personality Shashi Naidoo.

"The Heat Hot 100 list makes no distinction between local and international stars, and simply asks their readers to vote for their favourite celebrity. That alone makes his (Neethling's) award so much more impressive," said Shaw.

Among the international stars who have been honoured in the past are: Victoria Beckham, in the year when she stood by her husband David during the Rebecca Loos scandal, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and Wentworth Miller, whose tattooed character in the TV series Prison Break was hugely popular, according to a statement.

And what does the hot hunk think about his latest status?

According to the statement, Neethling couldn't believe what he was hearing when he received the phone call from heat.

"It's crazy. I actually thought you guys (heat) were pulling my leg or something. It must be a joke, right? I work so much that I haven't even been out much this year."
