SA Idols winner in court for drunk driving

Cape Town - Former SA Idols singing contest winner Karin Kortje appeared in court on charges of driving under the influence of alchohol, it was reported on Thursday.

The Cape Argus reported that she appeared calm as she entered the dock of the Kuils River Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Kortje was arrested in front of a police station on Van Riebeeck Road in Kuils River last July.

Police said they pulled her over when they noticed her driving erratically and recklessly.

Prosecutor Denzyl Jooste said the forensic report detailing Kortje's blood-alcohol level was still outstanding and he asked for the case to be postponed.

She would reportedly be back in court on 12 November.

Kortje was a packer on an apple farm and the lead singer of the Elginaires when she won Idols.

A year later, her then-boyfriend Cheslin Williams was arrested for the murder of Durbanville guest house owner Renata Kellerman. Williams was sentenced to life in prison.
