Isidingo star reveals HIV status

2011-12-01 12:06
Cape Town – South African actress Lesego Motsepe has decided to reveal that she is HIV positive on World Aids Day, reports Eye Witness News.

The actress, best known for her role as Letti Matabane on local soap opera Isidingo, has admitted that she has been living with the virus for almost 13 years.

Motsepe has stated that the reason for her confession is to make a difference in the lives of others after she suffered rejection and resentment after those close to her became aware of her status.

"The virus lives in my blood. For 13 years I had known, and I wanted to use the opportunity God gave me to be able to be a mentor to those who will be going through the same struggles I have gone through," she said.

Oh! Such a beautiful woman! Sorry Girl!

      Zelda - 2011-12-02 08:37

LESEGO AS A WOMAN I EMBRACE YOU, AND I TAKE MY HAT OFF TO YOU FOR BEIING SO BRAVE TO GIVE YOUR NEGATIVE STATUS. IT TAKES ALOT OF COURAGE AND FOR THAT I HAVE ALOT OF RESPECT FOR YOU.

      Zelda - 2011-12-02 08:40

@ Nosiphom im not beiing rude here but becarefull what you say here. You dont know the circumstances on how she was infected. There are alot of innocent people that get infected in different ways. Dont judge muna it can happen to anyone. And its not just via beiing intimate with someone. Blood transfusion is one other way.

      jackie.basson - 2011-12-02 12:20

Whats there to be sorry about, at least she had the courage to come out with the truth, unlike most of us!

  • alnkabinde - 2011-12-01 12:13

Keep fighting the good fight, my sister.

  • Saksak Motsepe - 2011-12-01 12:19

Shouldn't the headline read: ''Ex Isidingo star reveals HIV status''

      Wanda - 2011-12-01 12:37

There's truth in your statement but you can be forgiven for playing ignorance under these circumstances.

      mmakgaboe - 2011-12-01 13:10

sak's .. lol!!! You just made my day ...and g YOU ARE RIGHT funny enough. Its not being ignorant, actually goes to show how much you pay attention!!

      Kaizer - 2011-12-01 13:35

@gill - no, he didnt miis the point. The headline dragged a pi**poor soapie into the article and he made a observation on it.

  • ellen.h.matendana - 2011-12-01 12:26

You have courage girl ...am proud of you

  • Matthew - 2011-12-01 12:34

    Another statistic. Yawn.

      joe.ntimane - 2011-12-01 12:51

another statistic? Do you know your status moron? Oh! you still believe in the stupid belief that whites can't be innfected.

      Matthew - 2011-12-01 13:43

Nope. I just dont behave in a way that will lead to me getting infected. Easiest disease in the world not to catch.

      Stevie - 2011-12-01 14:00

Very insensitive of you. Right or wrong, a little less sarcasm would not hurt. I applaude this woman. As a role model or household name she had the guts to reveal her status, this may help many to come to terms with their status.

      Nthabiseng - 2011-12-01 14:47

oh yeah wow, never say never u can get through many ways it doesn't have to be sex.shows how ignorant you are fool this poor women doesn't deserve your foolishness.

      Kaizer - 2011-12-01 15:32

@jim - have you seen how your species treat rented children at the same robots? - f*** maaifoedie

      Heather - 2011-12-01 16:01

Matthew you don't know the circumstances under which she was infected. What if she was raped? Is it still so easy to "not catch it" then??? Anyone (including your invincible self) can and have been be raped !!

      Nosiphom - 2011-12-01 16:34

Exactly Matthew. It is not about testing - it is about behaving the correct way. I know of guys who test every six months - what does that tell us about their behavior. Sleep around without a "C" then test if you have been caught out ?

      Nosiphom - 2011-12-01 16:38

Agreed Heather Bee about the being maybe raped story, but the majority of people are just reckless. Its a pity women fall for these men. Another woman said on the radio that her husband has three HIV positive girlfrinds - what is she doing there ?? The man deserves to be tried for attempted murder or something!

      Dassie - 2011-12-01 21:26

Just because people look healthy on the outside proves nothing. The infected person lives with so many secondary and opportunistic infections inside their bodies that life becomes a living hell. The mistake made by the Mbeki-government was to portray HIV-infected people as fat, glowing, healthy, smiling people. The Mbeki-government's advertising message was exactly "YOU CAN LIVE HEALTHY WITH AIDS". This is of course a terrible lie. They should have shown the truth. There are various stages of this illness. (Stage A; B; C; and stage D, the so-called D-eath stage). Have a look at the reality by going to google-images and type in "AIDS". Then never again make a statement such as: "This goes to prove that HIV does not have to kill anymore".

  • Ntombozuko - 2011-12-01 14:59

  • Zenzele - 2011-12-01 16:46

I hate people who are ignorant how do you she got from sex, and even if she got from there how do you that she was reckless. Matthew is of the idiot and foolish person we have in this country. Unfortunately he is compromised the strede done by white people in this country in terms of recon. That is very brave of you Lesego you shown others how it should done.Keep on doing good

  • Simokazi - 2011-12-01 20:44

This just goes to prove that HIV need not be a death sentence. This lady is healthy looking and has been living with this virus for 13 years. Wow. Look, she wasn't obliged to come out but i'm sure she did it for her own reasons. Personally i take my hat off to her. I hope the many people who look up to her take note. And she is not a moron or someone with the 'morals of an alley cat' just because she lives with this disease. She got it however she got it. That is neither here nor there. So please, let's not be judgemental less we be judged. Peace

      Dassie - 2011-12-02 00:18

@Simokazi This is not passing judgment on anyone, but it is exactly because South Africans do not want to know about the real facts of AIDS, that the illness escalates beyond imagination in South Africa. It IS A DEATH SENTENCE ... get real. An AIDS death is a terrible, terrible death full of the worst suffering you can imagine. Just because people LOOK healthy on the outside proves nothing. This is an old photo of the actress.
