SABC launches 24-hour news channel

Johannesburg - The launch of the SABC's 24-hour television news channel on Thursday coincided with the broadcaster's birthday.

SABC board chair Zandile Tshabalala said the public broadcaster started 77 years ago, on 1 August.

"We will remain credible with up-to-date news," she said at the SA Broadcasting Corporation's headquarters in Auckland Park, Johannesburg.

President Jacob Zuma, his Lesotho counterpart Tom Thabane, and Communications Minister Yunus Carrim were among those who attended the event.
