Sarie has no gripe with Meyers

Cape Town - Women's magazine Sarie on Tuesday responded to rumours that recipes published in novelist Deon Meyer and his wife, Anita's recipe book actually belong to Sarie's food editor.

The Meyers recently published a cookbook, Kom Eet! Om die Tafel saam met Anita en Deon Meyer.

Six recipes in the book are reportedly similar to those of Sarie's food editor, Barbara Joubert, and the recipes weren't properly credited.

Joubert said in a statement she was surprised when she recognised eight of her recipes in the book, mostly copied word for word. Two of the recipes credit her. The recipes appeared in her two cookbooks, Sarie 5 (2006) and Proe die Lekker (2009).

'Good faith'

Joubert said although she agrees that a recipe like macaroni-and-cheese is a universal recipe, she puts her own stamp on it and writes it in her own style.

Editor of Sarie and Sarie Kos, Michélle van Breda, said after talks with publisher Human & Rousseau it is clear the publisher made the error. The recipes are in fact Joubert's which she developed for Sarie and Sarie Kos.

"We have no ill feelings towards Deon and Anita - in fact, Deon recently wrote a wonderful story for Sarie.

"We realised they acted in good faith and that they also sing Joubert's praises in the book."
