Pretoria – Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr's son Armand spent a few hours behind bars on Tuesday after he was arrested for drunk driving.
Hofmeyr jnr, also a singer, said he was pulled off the road on Monday night on his way from a social engagement in Hatfield with friends and his sisters.
Hofmeyr jnr allegedly made a U-turn in a street after which he was stopped by police officers, police spokesperson Duane Lightfoot, said.
This happened shortly before midnight at the corner of Duncan and Lynnwood streets.
Court date
"He seemed under the influence of alcohol when he was driving. He was tested after which he was arrested," said Lightfoot.
He was taken to the Brooklyn police station, where he was kept in the cells. He was kept there until Tuesday morning when he was able to get a lawyer.
According to Lightfoot, Hofmeyr jnr was released on R1 000 bail.
Lightfoot added that Hofmeyr jnr will appear in the community court in Hatfield on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The court date will only be determined after the results of the blood alcohol tests are known.
