The Village Green: a shopper’s paradise

There’s a lot going on in Grahamstown during the National Arts Festival, and in addition to seeing shows, stopping for a coffee or visiting museums, there is much on offer in the way of retail therapy. Although there are lots of tempting and delicious options available all over town, The Village Green promises to hold something in store for everyone. From having your own custom jewellery made while you wait, to grabbing a packet of hot cinnamon roasted nuts, it’s impossible not to open your wallet. We took a stroll through The Village Green, which is a magpie’s dream. It can be a little hard to navigate, so we’ve sampled some of the best spots to do some festival shopping.

BeeWise

If you’re looking for a fancy but affordable gift for someone back home, head over to BeeWise, where you can find a selection of delectable honey jars, sweet treats, and even some wooden percussion frogs. The charm of this stall is in the little details like the immaculate packaging and easy-to navigate layout of the products. In a market full of eager salespeople and expert salespeople, BeeWise is a quiet little stop manned by a charming young lady, who takes the time to give shoppers a pleasant shopping experience.

Birds Of A Feather

Hair wraps, flower headbands and metallic tattoos are all the rage at the moment and you can find all of these delightful accessories in one place and for far less than you’d pay in a city shop. From intricately designed white temporary tattoos to hair adornments with bells on, these ladies have thought of everything. And with incredibly friendly service and high quality goods, it’s no wonder we headed back for a second time.

The Juice Joint

While Grahamstown has a reputation for vicious weather, the days can also be incredibly warm as was the case on the first day. To cool off in the heat, head to The Juice Joint, which serves a variety of freshly squeezed juices. And if you’re feeling a little peckish, and would prefer a wholesome meal, try their fresh butternut served with a delicious filling.

Original Organics

Original Organics is the perfect spot for people who want pretty, decorative plants, but don’t exactly have the greenest fingers. This little stall makes an array of assorted plant-based decorations, complete with a pot and encircled with different stones. Although they do provide care instructions, if you’re still unsure how to handle a living, breathing plant, you can opt for a bouquet of ornamental flowers, which are both practical and the perfect gift.
