Tragedy hits Jak de Priester

Cape Town – Afrikaans singer Jak de Priester's mother-in-law died and his wife and kids were injured in a car accident near Uvhongo in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.

De Priester told JacarandaFM on Wednesday that his wife, Michelle Roux, seemingly fell asleep behind the wheel after which she lost control over the car and overturned it.

He said his wife will have to undergo reconstructive surgery for the injuries to her arm, while his two children, nine-month-old Mia and Jamie, two, sustained minor injuries. Their nanny and her daughter were also treated for minor injuries.

Condolences

Fans and friends sent their condolences to the family via Twitter.

Steve Hofmeyr tweeted: "My hart gaan ook uit aan Jak de Priester se skoonfamilie wat in 'n afgryslike ongeluk was. Donker dag." (My heart also goes out to Jak de Prieter's family-in-law who was in a gruesome accident. Dark day.)

Singer Ricus Nel also posted his condolences on his Twitter page: "Ai tog. Wat gaan aan. Ek dink so aan Jak de Priester en ook @janniemoolman en Anneke se familie." (Oh my. What is going on. I am thinking of Jak de Priester and also of @janniemoolman and Anneke's family.")

Journalist Yolanda Barnard tweeted: "Wat 'n dag! Dink aan julle Jak de Priester." (What a day! Thinking of you Jak de Priester.)
