Apology to Winnie Ntshaba

Johannesburg - In the article “Scorned women turn on playboy”, published on 23 June, about flamboyant businessman Nico Matlala and the women who had turned on him, we quoted Matlala as saying that he paid for TV personality Winnie Ntshaba’s groceries and DStv “because she is broke” and that he had slept with her at his house, claiming that this had been recorded.

Following her complaint to the Press Council, the Press Ombudsman ruled that City Press did not “explicitly record her denial of a sexual relationship with Matlala”, which she has denied.

We regret the error of omitting this crucial fact.

The ombudsman has, however, dismissed Ntshaba’s complaint that City Press failed to seek comment from her regarding Matlala’s claims that he paid for her groceries and DStv.
