It’s hard to believe, but Beyoncé hasn’t made it to no.1 on
the Billboard Hot 100 since Single Ladies – but now she’s back on top!
Billboard announced on Monday that Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé’s new collab, Perfect, took the top spot after selling 181 000 downloads in its first week.
This is only Beyoncé’s sixth time at the top of the charts. Despite the success of her last album, Lemonade, it is her first no. 1 since the wildly successful Single Ladies in 2008.
The last artist to go through a similar drought was Christina Aguilera, who took a break between 2001 and 2011.
Interestingly, the original version of Perfect, which doesn’t feature Beyoncé, contributed to the number one spot as the duet only makes up 63% of the sales, explained W Magazine.
According to Billboard, this means that Beyoncé may not have made it to no. 1 without Ed Sheeran’s numbers from the original song.
Beyoncé and Ed are old friends and the two have been known to go out for pizza and Jägerbombs.
Regardless of who helped who, Beyoncé still remains a queen in our eyes.
