<em>Fiela</em> stage production is looking for a child

Cape Town – Shaleen Surtie Richards returns in one of her most popular roles.

After thirty years the actress will play Fiela Komoetie again in a stage production of Dalene Mathee's novel, Fiela se Kind (Fiela's Child).

In 1988 the book was made into a film starring Richards, Jan Ellis, Dawid Minnaar, André Rossouw, Lida Botha and Annie Malan. (Read a review here)

Fiela se Kind tells the story of a Cape coloured woman, Fiela who adopts an abandoned white child. Years later the child is taken away from her and forced to live with a white family. 

In 1998 the movie was dubbed into English.

Production company, LeFra Productions is still on the search for a boy to play Benjamin Komoetie/ Lukas van Rooyen, reports Huisgenoot. 

Over 150 young talent have auditioned for the role, said director Frans Swart.

But the search is still on for the perfect Benjamin/Lukas.  

Boys looking to audition must be between the ages of 10 and 14 years old. 

The production will be on stage in March at the Woordfees in Stellenbosch thereafter at the Oppiwater festival.
