Flying Fish sets sail for the cityscape with epic street cruise

Johannesburg - The Flying Fish Add Some Flavour Street Cruise took off on Friday afternoon with forever young radio personality Roger Goode from 5FM steering the ship. His colleague, actress and radio DJ Thando Thabethe – who recently took over the station’s afternoon drive slot from Goode – was also on deck and promised to help those on board celebrate the start of the weekend with a bang.

The ship took the form of an old bus that was cleverly tinted to look like a sailing boat. This impressed a number of invited guests, who soon took to the theme and started talking as if they were passengers on the deck of Captain Jack Sparrow, the fictional character played by Johnny Depp in the highly acclaimed Pirates of the Caribbean film series.

Ahoy ! I'm lookin for an adventure ! #AddSomeFlavour @FlyingFishSA !

The bus “set sail” from Canteen, an eatery in Maboneng, to a secret location which turned out to be Hangout Jozi, a chilled eating space on Eloff Street in central Joburg that was transformed into an urban island of sorts.

Guests were treated to a host of culinary, music and fashion experiences which created a real breakaway from routine. They ate, drank and danced as delicious food kept coming, courtesy of celebrity chef Nthabiseng Ramaboa.

Since this was the first Flying Fish spectacular road show, contemporary fashion designer Rina Chunga exhibited her latest creations on a host of models and, in doing so, gave guests a sneak peek of the fashion extravaganzas planned for other cities over the next few weeks.

Joining us on the party voyage were DJ Doowap, the gorgeous rapper Rouge and Thabete, who presented her afternoon drive show from the party bus.

Rouge treated passengers to an extraordinary performance.

Other stars in attendance included dancer and actress Bontle Modiselle, model Tino Chinyani, actor Nkuli Tshirumbula, TV presenter Danine Naidoo and social influencer and singer Lady X.

Simphiwe Gwegwe and Obakeng Ramaboa, both of Idols fame, were also spotted among the revellers.

Music was provided by DJ Switch, DJ Phind’Gcobe Madubela – better known by his stage name pH – DJ Lamiez and Twins on Decks, who all got everyone dancing and singing. The event trended most of Friday afternoon on Twitter.

This new project marks a fresh way of partying by immersing guests in a festive adventure. There are plans to have a few more Add Some Flavour street cruises in cities such as Cape Town and Pretoria.

So, I suggest you break every rule to get your name on the guest list and get on that bus. Following the Flying Fish social-media accounts may be a good start.
