After a long wait, the SABC has finally revealed some new shows with fresh, home-grown talent to boost its viewership this summer.
On a sunny Wednesday afternoon, #BeNewWithOne took centre stage as the public broadcaster presented its new line-up, which it hopes will attract and capture new viewers on its SABC1 channel.
Held at the five-star Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa, the media launch resembled a cocktail party as guests were served expensive Veuve Clicquot and Night Nectar Krone.
While people were sipping Champagne alongside the pool, the media had an opportunity to mingle with actors, including new kid on the block and presenter of Tastemaker, Kay “DJ Doowap” Morgan.
Tumelo Mothotoane and DJ Warras were the MCs, and led the event well by ensuring they kept things entertaining.
Mothotoane presented a snippet of the show Daily Thetha, which will replace Shift and air from Monday to Thursday. She will co-host the show with Kini Shandu. The show focuses on education issues that are affecting young people’s daily lives.
“There will be a studio audience that will engage in those topics during the show,” Mothotoane said.
The broadcaster announced other new shows, including a reality fashion show called Raw Silk, which boasts faces such as Pearl Modiadie, who will be the presenter, and fashionistas Nthato Mashishi, Yasmin Furmie and Ole Ledimo.
Throwback Thursday is also a new exciting show, and will be presented by popular comedian Skhumba Hlophe and actress Gabisile Tshabalala.
There is never a dull moment around Hlophe, and he’ll definitely keep viewers in stitches. The show will keep you hooked as the hosts give you the highlights of things that are trending on social media.
To keep the media and the selected guests interested, organisers spiced up the event with massages, manicures, pedicures and facials for half an hour.
And it didn’t end there – in the evening, guests were taken to a different dinner set-up venue for the formalities.
Guests indulged in smoked salmon and cream of tomato soup as a starter, and grilled line fish, butternut ravioli or lamb as mains. Malva with crème anglaise was the delicious dessert.
On the decks, twin brothers Banele and Bandile Mbere kept the party going.
