IT looks like veteran rapper, Pro, real name Linda Mkhize, is a man of many talents. Known as Pro kid and later changed his name to Pro, he has been quiet for some time yet there is so much going on in his life. He is engaged, a father to a two-year-old girl and he says he has a special gift.
REACHING PEOPLE
Seemingly many people have mistaken his gift as that of a sangoma. “I am definitely not a sangoma. It’s just that I communicate with my ancestors. Funny enough, I do not know how it happens. But I remember it started when I was a kid. I used to dream and I would tell my grandmother about my dreams and she told me I had a gift that was passed on to me by my great-grandfather,” says Pro. “This gift is to help people, like those who are homeless or need support. I just try to reach people through this support and my music.”
SPIRITUAL TRAINING
In order for him to be able to refine his gift, Pro says he had to undergo spiritual training. “I did what I was told to do, starting from my mother’s side. But it wasn’t about me becoming a traditional healer. The things I see are things that I have to do or maybe a message I have to give out. I don’t do muthi at all. But I do have relationships with people who underwent traditional healing practices,” he explains. “My ancestors know that I fast, meditate and pray. I see ancestors as my angels that connect me to God.”
STRANGE DREAM
Pro says he once had a strange dream. “In the dream my grandmother gave me money. But when I split the papers, there were only invoices. That meant that I had to send money home. Ever since then, my ancestors have sent me all over the show to help others. At times there could be a fight at home which no one told me about and I would go home and find that there is a fight,” reveals Pro.
BEING A LOVER AND A FATHER
When it comes to matters of the heart, Pro reveals that he is engaged to his long-time girlfriend, who is also the mother of his two-year-old daughter. “I met my fiancée five years ago at an event. When I saw her, I decided to see if I still had my game and here we are, engaged,” he says. “Since I am always present, I do not want her growing up without me. I will start teaching her how to be independent. I don’t want my child to depend on a man. Whoever would want her, should know his game,” says Pro. “Being a father helped me to be matured. Now I no longer go to parties for fun. When I attend events, I go to work. I mingle around, especially for business purposes, and then go home. I have to be there for my family at all times. I’m all grown up now.”
