MGARIMBE and DJ Twitty’s friendship has broken down after the two had a difference of opinion about making a remix of the popular track, Sister Bettina. AIRING THEIR DIRTY LAUNDRY DJ Twitty, whose real name is Philani Khuzwayo, went on social media saying he wanted to do a remix of Sister Bettina. According to Mgarimbe, whose real name is Nkosinathi Mfeka, DJ Twitty did not discuss the idea with him first. Mgarimbe later saw the artwork of the song but his name was left out even though he is the one who made the song popular back in 2006. Mgarimbe made the song with Jabu Mgeni who died in 2007. Mgarimbe vented his frustrations on Twitter and says he did this because he felt disrespected by DJ Twitty. He accused DJ Twitty of making a remix of the song without his knowledge and sleeping with his girlfriend in 2006. Apparently Mgarimbe was broke at that time and DJ Twitty had offered him accomodation when the incident happened. Mgarimbe's ego was further bruised by the fact that DJ Twitty made artwork for the remix, which featured Babes Wodumo, without his knowledge. “I was venting because DJ Twitty went on Twitter to announce the remix and he didn't involve me  even though I made the song popular in 2006. When he got backlash that he’s not the right person to remix it, he then came to me. I felt disrespected,” says Mgarimbe, adding that he was the last person to know that there is already a remix.

DJ TWITTY SINGS A DIFFERENT TUNE

DJ Twitty has a different story about the events that led to their fallout. Twitty says the idea for a remix hit him when he saw the song on a music channel. He claims he then approached Mgarimbe about the idea of a remix. “I approached him for a remix and he seemed to be understanding. He asked to be the only person on the remix, but I said we should have someone else. I had Khanyi Mbau or Somizi in mind, but he refused. I left it at that,” he says. DJ Twitty denies that he created the artwork that left out Mgarimbe’s name. He says it was someone on social media who posted the artwork. “I did the remix not for commercial reasons, but for people to enjoy in clubs. Mgarimbe just blew things out of proportion. I can’t believe he is doing this to me after everything I’ve done for him,” he says.

THE STATE OF THEIR FRIENDSHIP

Seemingly unapologetic about his actions, Mgarimbe says whatever he said on social media is the truth and DJ Twitty knows it. They have not met since his venting on social media, but he says their friendship can be saved if Twitty reached out to him. “I have said all I wanted to say. I have no problem with him. I was just preventing this kind of thing from happening again. We need to end this,” says Mgarimbe. Twitty made it clear to Move! that he’s no longer friends with Mgarimbe. “We’re no longer friends. I want nothing to do with him,” he sternly says.
