QUEEN Iyaya, who now goes by Queen Sesoko, says she has buried the hatchet with kwaito star Arthur Mafokate. The former Abashante band member has also thrown away the revealing mini outfits for a more modest look. Another change she reveals is that she’s no longer a kwaito star but would rather sing gospel music to praise God as she is a bornagain Christian.

MAKING A COMEBACK

In a frank interview with Move!, Queen shows a different person than the one she was known as during her kwaito days. She says her spiritual transformation helped her answer God’s call to sing gospel. “There was no way I could continue with secular music genres because God’s call was already preparing me for a different purpose and that purpose is to sing for His glory,” she affirms. She says she is working on a comeback album, but would not reveal more details except to say it would be recorded and produced by Pastor Israel Mosehla. The album will be called The Atmosphere of His Presence. She is also busy penning a book which she says is aimed at edifying, exhorting and comforting the people of God. “I am waiting on God for the title of my book,” she says when we ask for the name.

MAKING PEACE WITH HER EX

Having such a good relationship with the Almighty, we ask her about her rapport with her ex, Arthur, with whom she has a child. Queen says, “It’s been almost 15 years since Arthur and I parted ways, surely there is no one who can hold a grudge against anyone for that long, unless he is the devil himself. Arthur and I are on good terms,” she sternly says. “Continuous anger, bitterness and unforgiveness would have destroyed us by now. And it would not have been good for our daughter too. We were never enemies. I just think things were blown out of proportion.”

HER RELATIONSHIP WITH HER DAUGHTER

Speaking of her daughter, Queen was once in a bitter custody battle with Arthur over their daughter Owami and it grabbed headlines. The young girl ended up staying with Arthur and tabloids were reporting that Queen was in pursuit of getting her daughter back. “If I pursue taking my daughter from a home she’s always stayed in, it would be selfish of me. She loves her home and that much makes me happy. We might not see each other as often as we please, but the bond of love we have for one another is inseparable,” she says. “Our relationship is great. We are best friends and love one another. Her father, whom I respect, is a wonderful man who has never allowed anyone to take my place in her life.”
