Cape Town – The streets of Cape Town came alive on Saturday at the seventh annual Cape Town Carnival.
Spectators flocked in their numbers to watch the elaborate floats and participants celebrate the Street Life theme.
What it's all about:
Cape Town Carnival is a sustainable street parade which showcases and celebrates the diversity of Cape Town and South Africa; the event has become a benchmark on the international tourism calendar.
Overheard:
* More than 50 talented community groups performed dances and acts that represented their interpretation of the Street Life theme.
* Local law enforcement task forces like the Firemen and SAPS also made a special appearance and had the crowd going wild.
* Siv Ngesi showed off what his mama gave him in tight hot pants as the star of the Tsogo Sun float.
* Liezel van Der Westhuizen celebrated her third year participating in the carnival.
* Idols judge, Somizi Mhlongo made his carnival debut.
