Celebrity honeymoons

I’ll always remember my honeymoon. We stayed right on the beach in Zanzibar, went swimming with dolphins and enjoyed beautiful candlelit dinners by the pool... All things celebrities do not care for, it seems.

Kim Kardashian has just announced that she and her new hubby are postponing their honeymoon until next year. Prince William and Kate did the same. On the Monday after their royal wedding, William reported back for military duty in North Wales.

Then there was Princess Charlene and Prince Albert of Monaco, who postponed their honeymoon to instead attend a meeting of the International Olympic Committee in Durban. They could have turned their African trip into a mini-honeymoon, but it emerged that Charlene and Albert weren’t even staying at the same hotel.

And so we weren’t surprised when the next royal wedding rolled around and Zara Phillips and rugby player husband Mike Tindall announced that they were too busy to take a honeymoon.

Now Kim's jumping on the bandwagon - royals don’t do honeymoons!

In case you missed it, Kim Kardashian married basketball player Kris Humphries on Saturday outside Santa Barbara. No official photos were released because they sold their wedding to People magazine. Lucky for you, we have mad journalism skills and found this video, which shows her walking down the aisle in all her bridal glory.  We also managed to find out who she had on her guest list and how much the wedding cost.

So, why don't celebrities want to enjoy a honeymoon together? Is it because the brides don’t organise their own weddings and as a result don’t need to de-stress?  Is making money so important that they can’t take time out of their busy schedules and miss the next pay cheque? Or is it because their whole lives are like one long honeymoon so they don’t obsess over its importance as much as we humans do?

My view? That's why their marriages don't work out. They can’t take time out to prioritise and enjoy their partners. Luckily, South African celebrities don’t fall into the same trap. After her wedding to Graeme Smith, Morgan Deane tweeted: “Honeymoon begins today”.
