How to (really) have fun

I'm always fascinated by what people do when they're at home. Is it really as mundane as getting the chores and cooking done, spending time with the family, getting the kids in bed before it’s time to catch 8 hours of zzzz's yourself?

I suspect it is.

Thank heavens then for South Africa's love for public holidays – because hot on the heels of Freedom Day and Easter comes Workers' Day and an opportunity to do something completely out of the norm on a week day.

Channel24 have your entertainment needs taken care of with a look at what's worth your time this week:

AT THE MOVIES – Iron Man 3
Has it really been nearly a year since The Avengers? Tony Stark is back to protect the world and is not in a very good place after the events of New York. Iron Man 3 opens in South Africa on Wednesday, 1 May – meaning we get to see it before the US and China! It’s a pretty fun film and Robert Downey Jr is ON FIRE. Check out our review here.

ON TV – 2013 Cosmo Lingerie Fashion Show
Glamorous local models in sexy designer lingerie, strutting down the catwalk… It's must-watch TV. Catch it on Wednesday, 1 May at 19:30 on Vuzu (DStv channel 116).

GET MOVING – Step Up or Step Out auditions
Cape Town get ready to show your stuff at the auditions for the third season of the etv reality competition Step Up or Step Out. The CT auditions take place at the Dance For All Studios on 4 & 5 May. Durban, your turn is happening at the BAT Centre on 11 May, Bloemfontein at the Bloemfontein Showgrounds, Iris Hall on 18 May and Port Elizabeth at The Opera House on 25 May. Season 3 kicks off on etv on Sunday, 23 June at 18:05.

ON THE MIC – Annie Lennox talks gender violence in Cape Town
Singer-songwriter and political activist Annie Lennox will be in Cape Town on Thursday, 2 May to give a talk that ponders the question: "How can we see the end of gender-based violence?" The Eurythmics singer, who is married to a South African doctor, has launched a petition begging media, government and religious leaders to commit to the issue of gender-based violence on both a personal and professional level. Find out more about how you can be part of this event here.

So whether you're staying in or making the most of the outdoors, wherever you find yourself over the course of this shortened week, make it count! Because next week is going to be OFF THE WALL with Bon Jovi, Justin Bieber AND the SAMAs to look forward to. We're going to need another public holiday – stat! – just to catch our breath…

Also remember to send us your reviews and pics of any of these fun events at Feedback@Channel24.co.za – and get published.
