Oppikoppi Time!

I still remember my first Oppikoppi...

“Do you know it’s Oppikoppi this weekend?” Anita, my roommate, said while peering over her political science notes.

“Yeah, I’ve always wanted to go, you know. Too bad we have exams next week,” I sighed.

That same evening we jumped on the bus with a borrowed tent in hand and made the long journey from Stellenbosch to Northam. We were going to Oppikoppi.

And it was AWESOME. In fact, we enjoyed it so much we went back the next year and the next, and the next... One year, I met a really cool guy there and ended up marrying him.

But the reason I love Oppikopppi is not only because of that special meeting or all the friends I’ve made. I love it for the romantic combination of bushveld and blues; peering at your muddy friend through the stof and thinking, ‘this is what it feels like when you’re living life’. A hard feeling to come by.

Have you ever been to Oppikoppi? Tell me about your experience.

Hmm, now that I think about it, that tent never did make its way back to Cape Town...

'Til next week,
