Red Hot Chiding Tempers

So... The Red Hot Chili Peppers played in Johannesburg on Saturday and wow, people are furious about the execution of the show.

Broken turnstiles, long queues, fights, rumours of guards accepting bribes... Read all about it here.

Tempers are flaring and rightly so - people pay a lot of money to enjoy these shows, and it puts a real damper on the experience when logistical errors stop you from having a good time or even worse, missing some of the show.

However, what bothers me even more is that the focus is now solely on what went wrong, not what went right. As far as I can tell, RHCP performed brilliantly, but when we revisit these headlines a year from now, we'll only be reliving the negatives, not the positives.

See photos of RHCP in Johannesburg here.

How must the band feel? Their first visit to SA has been marred by logistical issues which could have been avoided, and in my opinion, Big Concerts has hosted more than enough international concerts to have learnt all the lessons to be able to pull off a flawless production.

Yes, Big Concerts hand over the actual production of the show to other entities. Yes, they are strictly not responsible for anything that happens outside of the stadium. But their brand is synonymous with these concerts - before, during and after the show. Even if they aren't responsible for any of the "chaos" at the Johannesburg concert, I believe it is their duty to put plans in place to eliminate these pitfalls that ultimately damage their brand.

RHCP will play at the Cape Town Stadium tonight and I'm really hoping that everything will run smoothly, and finally we will be able to celebrate this amazing band's brilliance instead of a company's lack thereof.

We'll be there - will you? Send us your photos and reviews of the show and you could be published!

Here's to looking at the glass half full.
