The Alternative Emmys

2011-09-20 11:26
The official Primetime Emmys have come and gone with Modern Family cleaning up. Congrats to one of our favourite shows.

However, the ceremony is about much more than just the golden statuettes. "We had tons of fun scrutinising the dresses, the acceptance speeches and Jane Lynch's less than impressive wardrobe," says Channel24 TV editor Sam Brighton.

And here - thanks to Sam- are Channel24's Alternative Emmys:

Hottest Presenting Couple
Rob Lowe and Sofia Vergara. I’m sure the Emmy melted a bit in their presence. Even Jon Stewart commented on their collective hotness.

Best Dressed
Kate Winslet. A tough one as not many of the dresses made us go ‘wow’, but Kate was simply elegant in a red Elie Saab dress.

Worst Dressed
Gwyneth Paltrow. Did you get that middle section caught in the door of the limo, or was that intentional?

Secret Hot Body Award
Raising Hope’s Martha Plimpton. The sparkly burgundy number hugged her in all the right places.

Best Acceptance Speech
Guy Pearce accepted his award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a TV Movie/Miniseries by saying how lucky he was to have sex with Kate Winslet "many, many times".

Best Moment
During the opening sequence, Jon Slattery (as Roger Sterling) lifted a phone handset to his eyes at the thought of being able to watch TV on your phone.

Most Awkward Moment
Charlie Sheen wishing Two and A Half Men all the best. Yes, we've heard this before. We waited for the punchline but Charlie just seemed really uncomfortable.

Surprise Win
Friday Night Lights’ Kyle Chandler takes Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. It seems the show's motto "Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose" finally beared fruit.

Tell us what you thought of the Emmys.

'Til next week,

Local is very lekker!
