Why Nelson is a rock star

2011-01-31 12:37
Last week the news of Nelson Mandela’s hospitalisation got us worked up into such a frenzy we thought we might lose him. But he recovered and returned home to recuperate in peace, so this week we want to celebrate that he’s still with us.

So, here are five reasons why Nelson Mandela is a rock star.

1.    He’s the biggest celebrity on earth. Even the most famous A-list celebrities - think Oprah, Bono and David Beckham - turn into awkward teenagers in his presence, trembling as they ask for an autograph.

2.    The Madiba Shuffle. This little jig instantly became one of his trademark moves. When you see Nelson with his bright eyes and shrugged shoulders doing a little jive you can’t resist smiling. Not even the Macarena has such powers.

3.    He’s funny. Nelson has the ability to make a room of people laugh even during tense political discussions. He’s got that rare ability to always point out the lighter side of life. A quality only true leaders have.

4.    He’s got style. As president he traded in the standard black suit and tie for his now-famous Madiba shirt. He has guts; he dared to be different and follow his individual style.

5.    He saved us. It’s too scary to think what would have become of our beloved country if it wasn’t for this man. Sure, it’s easy in hindsight to point out what he should have done differently, but overall, black or white, we are all better off because of him.

And for that we will always love and remember our Tata. Here's hoping he keeps rocking for years to come.
'Til next week,

Local is very lekker!
