Los Angeles - Paris Hilton has spent over $300 000 (R3.2m) on a new car.

The hotel heiress was spotted leaving a dealership in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, in a black McLaren 650S Coupe which is believed to have set her back between $300 000 and $340 000.

Paris, 33, was first spotted at the upmarket dealership back in January and returned on Tuesday to pick up her new super car.

The socialite and her pet Chihuahua Peter Pan - who was spotted riding shot gun as she pulled out of the showroom - spent the rest of the afternoon shopping in Beverly Hills' Chanel boutique.

Paris - who is the great-granddaughter of the Hilton hotel chain founder, Conrad Hilton - is known for her extravagant spending and has even admitted to owning "well over a thousand" pairs of shoes.

Earlier this year, she admitted: "I've probably got well over a thousand pairs of shoes in total! I have a lot of shoes because I'm a designer as well - I've had my shoe line for about eight years now so I have a lot of those, and I also get sent a lot of sample shoes because I'm a designer. I love Louboutins and own lots of pairs. All girls love shoes!"
